Comcast's new DVR services beat satellite

MercuryNews.com | 01/03/2005 | Comcast's new DVR services beat satellite

According to Mike Langberg at Mercury News, the new Motorola DVRs from Comcast that caused such a ruckus in California last month has proved to be worth the wait.

The combo HDTV/DVR units, available in both single and dual tuner models (Mororola DCT6408 and Motorola DCT6412, respectively) are free from Comcast with no contract. Compare that to $999.99 for an HD DirecTiVo and $549.99 for the equivilant from Dish Network. Monthly DVR service fee is $9.95, add $5 for HDTV. There are even more advantages that the cable boxes are offering over satellite, such as a single cable for the dual-tuner and access to on demand viewing of shows.

Comcast has suddenly rocketed ahead of DirecTV and Dish Network on both price and features with a new digital video recorder, or DVR, and video-on-demand service that are nothing short of outstanding.
