Did TiVo's Ramsay Blow a Cable TV Deal?

Could TiVo have been the new Comcast DVR?

TiVo last summer hammered out an agreement
with Comcast, the nation's largest cable operator, to offer its Digital Video Recording
service. However, TiVo CEO Mike Ramsay pulled out of the deal at the last minute,
fearing that it was either too costly or gave up too much control to the cable
operator.

That's according to a report in today's New York Times.

The newspaper says that TiVo's board of directors supported Ramsay's action at the
time. However, TVPredictions.com has learned that some board members and
high-ranking TiVo officials have since concluded that the decision was a huge error.
In fact, the subsequent debate over Ramsay's action drove his announcement last
week that he would step aside as the company's chief executive. (TiVo is now
searching for a new CEO; Ramsay will stay on as chairman.)
